Creative projects with Carers MK
Over the past 5 years we have built a strong relationship with Carers MK who provide wonderful services and support for young carers and young adult carers. Projects have been supported by Children in Need and other Trusts and Foundations.
Projects have included song writing and recording courses with partners Unit 9, lockdown book clubs and mentoring training for young adult carers.

The Need
Carers MK have around 1,000 Young Carers and Young Adult Carers on their registers. Young Carers can be isolated and bullied, and live with mental health issues, with little opportunity to be a child, have fun and forget their responsibilities. Young Carers are often juggling schoolwork and school life with caring for siblings and parents including personal care, shopping, cooking and child care. Children as young as 8 are coping with either the trauma of medical emergencies and parents unable to care for them and/or the daily grind of domestic and financial duties and worries.
Empowering Young Carers Through Creativity and Connection
Our partnership with Carers MK over the past five years has highlighted the critical role of creative projects in providing much-needed respite, connection, and personal growth for young carers. By engaging in activities like songwriting, book clubs, and mentoring, these young individuals have the chance to step away from their daily responsibilities, express themselves, and simply be kids.. We hope to create more opportunities for young carers to thrive, build confidence, and find joy amidst their challenging circumstances. Together, we can make a lasting impact on their lives and ensure they feel seen, supported, and valued.
