Reducing Isolation and Loneliness Through Creative Projects
Inter-Action MK work with Camphill MK Community on a number of joint initiatives and projects as opportunities arise. These include current projects such as Groovy Gecko and the Friday Show, and also previous projects such as Cook Club Book Club, and new conversations on contributing to a friendship/dating service.
The Need
A recent report to parliament, citing Open University studies concluded that those with learning disability face reduced access to vital care and support, as well as to valued activities. Increased isolation and loneliness, since Covid lockdowns have also had a profound effect on their mental health and will leave lasting effects on their health and wellbeing......how important it is for people with learning disabilities to have some kind of normality—or, at least, access to specialist activities."
Our own conversations with MK based agencies and individuals have shown that the isolation, effect on carers and lack of independence and positive activities have led to increased mental health issues.
We are dedicated to finding opportunities to celebrate the positive and possible, to creating high quality cultural opportunities, and to including all who face additional needs in the cultural and community life of Milton Keynes.
